Theme

 The theme of the book SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson is depression and rape. Melinda, the main character of the book is depressed through out the whole school year. On pg 135, rape comes into view as Melinda has a flashback of the horrible experience at a end of summer party.What we can learn about this theme is that you shouldn't keep it to yourself if somebody hurt you in that way because it may make you depressed, change the type of person you are completely and make your entire life different.
